Abstract

An important collection of 12 folkloric water colors done by Juan Francisco Mancera, a painter native to Soatá, Boyacá, who learned water color techniques as an illustrator of the Royal Botanical Expedition ofthe New Kingdom ofGranada (1783-1816) from which he retired in 1811. Commentaries are given relative to the origin of the miniaturism and the caricature in Colombia, as well as Mancera's artistic training, his techniques, his composition, and content of his paintings.
