Abstract
A new species of coral snake (Micrurus, Elapidae) with a very peculiar color pattern, characterised by complete black and yellow rings in addition to a wide red band over the dorsum along the entire body is described. This feature sets it apart from all other species of coral snakes of the genus Micrurus. The only two specimens known were captured in the Funcionarios field camp (8º 1' 3.4"N, 76º 11' 8.1"W) in the hydroelectric power plant Urrá I, in the Municipio de Tierra Alta at 90 meters above sea level in the Departamento de Córdoba, Colombia.
