Resumen
El calcio juega un papel fundamental durante el desarrollo del parásito intracelular Plasmodium falciparum, agente causante de la malaria. Con el objeto de entender mejor el mecanismo como actúa el calcio en este parásito, se detectaron proteínas de unión a calcio en este organismo. El uso combinando del colorante metacromático «Stains-all» y la técnica de 45Ca2+ overlay permitió detectar 9 proteínas de unión a calcio, 6 de las cuales no parecen corresponder a proteínas previamente identificadas, en parásitos maduros. Adicionalmente se determinó que el uso de estas técnicas es un ensayo que puede ser usado durante la detección y purificación de proteínas de unión a calcio.
