Resumen

La mayoría de los casos de asma son de origen alérgico. Esta enfermedad es causada, en personas genéticamente susceptibles, por los alergenos de los ácaros del polvo de habitación. En el trópico,  los ácaros más comunes son B. tropicalis y Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus. La importancia clínica del primero se ha descrito en la última década y gran parte de esta información se ha generado en nuestro laboratorio. Este artículo describe los procedimientos y resultados de la caracterización inmunoquímica y molecular de los alergenos de B. tropicalis, en un enfoque general que llevaría a su manipulación genética con el fin de obtener reactivos para el tratamiento de las enfermedades alérgicas.
