Abstract
The etiology and pathogenesis of asthma cases involve an allergic mechanism. Allergens from house dust mites are the main cause of asthma within a genetically susceptible population. B. tropicalis and D. pteronyssinus are the commonest domestic mites in the tropics. During this decade, important advances have been made in our laboratory, in regard to the clinical role of B. tropicalis. Here we describe the general approach and results we have obtained in the immunochemical and molecular characterization of several allergens from this mite. This goal includes the possibility of genetic manipulation of the cloned allergens to get safe reagents for diagnosis and Immunotherapy of allergic diseases.
