Abstract

Sodiroa s. I is a group of species included into Guzmania (Bromeliaceae), and is built of two species complexes, Massangea and Sodiroa s.s. Both were considered as genera at the end of past century. In this paper we tested the monophyly of these groups and examined their phylogenetic relationships. For the analysis we used a matrix of 25 informative morphological characters and 16 taxa: 12 as ingroup (7 of Sodiroa s.s. and 5 of Massangea) and 4 as outgroup. Characters were analyzed under equal, successive and implicit weights. In ali analyses Sodiroa s.s. and s. I are monophyletic groups, and Massangea is not natural. Given these results Sodiroa s. I should be restored as the genus.
