Abstract

Based on the revision of abundant bibliography, commentaries are made in relation to the ecogeographical island theory proposed by MacArthur & Wilson and over its impact as well as the implications and limitations generated in the application of the theory in research related to biogeography, ecology, and conservation biology. We emphasize that the model served to stimulate a great deal of research and generate new concepts, such as "Minimal Viable Population" (MVP).
