Abstract
In this contribution the results of a study by M0ssbauer spectroscopy of the gamma-irradiation effect on the pyrite phase present in two Colombian coals are reported. The coals were exposed to different gamma-irradiation doses using a 6°Co source. It is known that the removal of sulfur from coal is necessary before using it as an energy source. This requirement results from the various environmental issues that sulfur-bearing species cause upon burning.
