Abstract
In many fields of practice, like agrometeorology, there is a need to estimate the down welling radiation at the surface, on the basis of meteorological parameters of easy access. Air temperature and relative humidity, which are regularly measured at shelter height, have served as the entries in empirical formula down in estimating the air's radiation returned to earth. One.such classic formula bears Ángstrom's name. Attempts to derive it from theory have not been convincing. This essay offers a fresh attempt, starting from a two-stream model of infrared radiation.
