Abstract
Earth's climate is characterized by multifarious feedbacks. Of paramount importance is one in which the solar radiation is modified by the atmosphere and its clouds, determining the amount of solar radiation returned to the starry spaces (the terrestrial albedo) and thus affecting the energetics of climate. This paper offers both a condensed survey of classical twostream models, based here on a singular phase function, and a trilayered model to account for the vertical fluxes of solar radiation, modified by the particles in the air by the processes of absorption and scattering.
