Abstract

Elastomers are macromolecules whose length increases up to 400% upon stress, but return to their initial length once this stress is released. The application of a recently discovered polymerization reaction, metathesis, in the obtention of elastomeric materials is described here. As a matter of fact, the use of the basic principles explaining the phenomenon of elasticity, in the polymerization of α, ω-acyclic dienes via metathesis, ADMET, allowed the transformation of materials with no elastic properties in materials increasingly elastic.
