Abstract
We describe the structure and composition of the mycophagic insect community of oak woods (Quercus humboldtii) in Boyaca- Colombia. From november 2000 to july 2001, 1778 adults insects were found and other 3409 were reared in the lab for a total of 5187 insects, belonging to 48 morphospecies, found in 309 fruiting bodies. An insect ecological classification for this fauna (primary mycophagous, secondary mycophagous, detritivorous and predators) is proposed based on the degree of insect dependency on fungi, host selection and tropic level. The effect of fungi size and state of fungi development on the community structure is estimated. The community shows a classical log-normal distribution model. It is the richest community in insect species compared to as other studies in this Country. Insect abundance is modified by fungi size and fungi development state. The richness of species is mainly modified by fungi development state.
