Abstract
Here, we describe a new species of Burmeistera (Campanulaceae) from the humid Andean forests of the Northwestern cordillera in Antioquia and Chocó (Colombia). Among the known species in the genus, Burmeistera galeanoae stands out morphologically for the presence of reduced distal leaves in the flowering branches, the distinctive presence of bracteolate pedicels, a cupuliform or subglobose hypanthium, a fuchsia-colored glabrous corolla, with falcate dorsal lobes, a synandrium exerted up to 30 mm in length, bearded ventral anthers, and inflated patent berries. This new taxon is preliminarily classified as Endangered (EN). With this new addition, about 59 species are now recorded in Colombia, most of which are endemic (ca. 75%).
