Abstract
This article presents a biographical synthesis of H.A. Schumacher, the German humanist, diplomat, and historian. His works are analysed, particularly those that treat the cultural and scientific development of Colombia and tthe biographies of J.C. Mutis, F.J. Caldas, A. Codazzi and J. Triana. Pertinent umpublished documents are transcribed.
