Abstract

The diagnostic characters of the pupae and larvae and a graphic key for the identification of the pupae of 17 species of Gigantodax are reported. The description of the larva of Gigantodax zumbahuae and the description of a new species of the genus Gigantodax are given. The distribution of the Gigantodax species in Colombia is discussed. G. cypellus, G. multifilis and G. zumbahuae are registered for the first time. The idiogram of the polytene chromosomes of Gigantodax sp. nov. is shown and the comparison between the polytene chromosomes of this species and the polytene chromosomes of G. ortizi is made in order to see if the new species belongs to the same group as G. ortizi.
