Abstract
In this paper the results of a palynological study of 134 meters of peat and lake sediments are repor- ted. This sequence is part of a 280 meters core drilled in the Tenaghi Phillippon (Eastern Macedonia, Greece). Paleomagnetic studies revealed the pre- sence of the Brunhes Matuyama boundary in the core at a depth of 134 meters. With the available 14C - datings and the age of the Brunhes Matuya- ma boundary a time-depth relation could be esta- blished. This relation is used as time-base for a time series analysis. The analysed data demonstra- te the presence of a 23,000 year, 28,000 year, 43,000 year and 95,000 year period. The arid assemblage present during the glacials could be split up into three subassemblages; comparable to a grass steppe, an Artemisia-Chenopodiaceae steppe and a forest steppe.
