Resumen

Con base en la revisión de abundante bibliografía, se hacen comentarios en relación con la teoría de la ecogeografía insular propuesta por MacArthur & Wilson y sobre el impacto, implicaciones y limitaciones generadas en la aplicación de dicha teoría en investigaciones relativas a la biogeografía, la ecología y la biología de la conservación. Se destaca cómo tal modelo sirvió de estímulo para realizar numerosas investigaciones y generar nuevos conceptos como el de "Población viable mínima" (MVP).
