Resumen

En este estudio se examinó la capacidad antioxidante y antinitrosativa de los extractos y flavonoides aislados a partir de hojas y corteza de Bauhinia kalbreyeri Harms (Casco de Vaca. Fabaceae). Los extractos mostraron alta funcionalidad antioxidante y antinitrosativa, en tanto que los flavonoides aislados dejaron ver habilidad para quelar metales e inhibir el NO. Se encontraron diferencias significativas entre los extractos entre sí, y entre ellos y las fracciones de flavonoides (p < 0.05). La actividad antioxidante de la planta parece fundamentarse en el conjunto de derivados fenólicos. Los resultados obtenidos indican que el potencial antioxidante de B. kalbreyeri es comparable con el del Hidroxitolueno butilado y el ácido ascórbico utilizados como antioxidantes por la industria alimentaria y farmacéutica.
