Abstract

Study ofthe mentonian (lower jaw) glands in aduct males oftwo species of the Hylabogotensis group of frogs, its histochemistry and structure by means of optical and transmision electron microscope (OM, TEM). Those glands are similar in form and function to the hedonic gland of the lower jaw of species of Plethodontidae.

A broadening of the forearm in adult males of Phrynopus adenobrachius studied with the same methods (OM, TEM) shows a “lagunar” system in the spongious stratum replacing the glandular secretions used in the fastening of the couple during amplexus.
