Abstract

Uredinales species belonging to the genera Uncol and Desmella on ferns in the low American tropics exhibit characteristics in morphology, life cycles, and relations with hosts that are ancestral compared to species found in temperate climates. These species have traditionally been considered the starting point for evolutionary phenomena related to rust.
