Abstract
The Los Mangos Granulites form the metamorphic basement of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta massif. Gneisses, granulites, and amphibolites are the predominant rocks. The mineral associations of the granulite facies in this sequence include orthopyroxene-garnet-mesoperthite, orthoclase-garnet-biotite, and clinopyroxene-quartz.
Sm-Nd isotopic studies yielded a garnet-whole rock age of 971 ± 8 Ma, interpreted as the age of high-grade metamorphism associated with the Grenville orogenic event.
The TDM model ages range between 1.47 and 1.92 Ga, and εNd(T=971 Ma) values between +0.37 and -5.02, suggesting the presence of crustal material and an age of approximately 1.9 Ga for the protoliths of the Los Mangos Granulites.
