Abstract
Titanium dioxide, TiO 2 , is a compound with high technological importance. TiO 2 is used as pigment, photocatalyst and varistor. In the last years TiO 2 nanoparticles have been used for the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in water. In this work TiO 2 sols were obtained using Sol-gel technology. Titanium (IV) butoxide, TBT, was used as Ti precursor. The hydrolysis rate of TBT was controlled by adding acetyl acetone (Acac) to the system. Acac was used as complexing agent. The evolution of the system was studied following the hydrolysis and polycondensation reactions by means of infrared (FTIR) and UV- visible spectroscopies and viscosity measurements
