Abstract
A preliminary synopsis of the genera Herpyza C. Wright and Dioclea K. Kunth in Cuba is presented, including dichotomous keys to the Cuban taxa, taxonomic descriptions, illustrations, and information on chemical composition, chromosome numbers, palinology, ethnobotany, as well as the distribution and ecology of the four taxa found in the country. Although the results define the characters of each genus, a future molecular and biogeographic analysis of Herpyza along with other taxa of Phaseoleae is needed to elucidate its phylogenetic relationship with other genera of Legume.
