Abstract

This research was conducted to gather information about the banana hybrids FHIA 01, FHIA 17, and plantain FHIA 21, as well as the banana variety Gros Michel and plantain Dominico Hartón, in terms of their response to Mycosphaerella fijiensis and M. musicola. The study took place in a screenhouse at the experimental station of Montelindo, University of Caldas. Inoculations of M. fijiensis and M. musicola were performed to assess the incubation period (IP), times of symptom evolution (TSE), disease development time (TDD), and the rate of disease development (r) for black and yellow Sigatoka. A completely randomized plot design was employed. FHIA 01, FHIA 17, and FHIA 21 exhibited longer IP, TSE, and TDD when exposed to M. fijiensis and M. musicola compared to the values observed in Gros Michel and D. Hartón. Furthermore, the hybrids displayed a slower r for both Sigatoka types, indicative of their resistance to the diseases.
