Abstract

The clays are important raw material, mainly, for the elaboration of traditional ceramics. Therefore, it is very interest to characterize physically and chemically the clays in order to optimize their properties and to increase their use; that is why the characterization of clays in the region of Guapi becomes in an important activity by the technological, economic and social effect that can be generated. In this work are indicated the results obtained of this characterization. For this, it was used infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X ray diffraction (XRD), X ray fluorescence (XRF), thermal analyses (ATD/TG) and Electronic microscopy of Transmission (MET). In addition, information is given on the obtained results in the tests of plasticity, liquid and plastic limits, and specific weight of the raw material.
